I wore these shoes 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week and they lasted me exactly one year. They were comfortable and durable on the outside. It was the inside that made me have to stop wearing them. The fabric lining that is glued to the steel on the inside wore away and started making a hole in the right foot sock. It was super frustrating. I bought brand new socks and at the end of the day there was a hole in my right big toe. Same the next day. And the next. These also don’t breathe well especially in humid Alabama. I like this brand and I will continue to buy it. Just know that they will probably last one year. The inside will fail before the outside will. At least in my experience.I've been wearing Keen Detroit Low shoes daily for about 4 years. My first pair lasted about 3 years, and still have that pair as a backup, and for occasional use at home. But the second lasted little more than a year before starting to fall apart on the inside, in a way that makes them seriously uncomfortable. That said, I'll likely buy these shoes again, although I hope the quality of the second pair was just a fluke. Other than the quality issue, I like (almost) everything about them. They are (were) comfortable, the steel toes are sturdy, they're very slip resistant, and externally have taken some abuse and held up reasonably well.UPDATE** - I purchased these on September 5th. Now it is March 28th. I walk about 35 miles a week on concrete surfaces in these boots. They still look like they are brand new, but my back and shins are killing me. I've tried a couple of different insoles to see if I could squeeze out some more use. I figure I've walked about 800 miles in them. So looks-wise, they held up great, but I wish they hadn't packed out so fast.Once again, Keen hits it out of the park. After months of suffering through a pair of cheap Sears boots, causing leg cramps that wake me up at night, I bought these boots and they are SOOOO comfortable. (And the sale price I got them for was cheaper than the Sears boots!) No more leg cramps, and I don't feel nearly as exhausted at the end of my shift. I was occasionally wearing my Keen Targhee II hiking boots to work, but because they were waterproof, they didn't breathe and my feet would get hot and clammy. Since these boots are not waterproof, they are much more breathable and my feet stay fairly dry.I’ve worn these for 1.5 years as a healthcare worker. I like Keens and particularly these composite toe shoes because I’m constantly kicking foot controls on stretchers and exam tables. I added my preferred (Arch2000) insoles and the fit is great. They have held up better than even some other Keens I’ve had in the past.My one complaint is that these squeak terribly on vinyl tile. They would be perfect for working on any other surface and the chunky tread seems good for hiking rough or loose terrainI bought these for work. I work in an indoor factory environment that requires steel toe to be worn at all times. I work a regular full time schedule, 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I needed something to provide support and the protection that these shoes offer. I bought these shoes thinking, they’re basically sneakers on steroids. In other words okay, these shoes will be as comfortable as sneakers but provide the support and protection of steel toe. Not to mention needing the comfort of a sneaker to get me through the work day from Mon - Fri.I wore these every day at work so far for over a week, and my feet and toes are hurting. Mostly towards the top of my foot, is what is bothered the most; my toes and the ball of my foot area. Pain is so bad in my right foot, i took off my socks at the end of the day wondering if there was something wrong! I don’t recommend if considering buying for work and wearing these shoes consistently. If you are buying these two wear here and there for random purposes, I’ll say, maybe(?) consider them? But probably not. If you are buying them to wear them for an 8 hour work day every weekday 5 days a week like I bought them for, DON’T BUY THESE SHOES. They’re will leave you hurting! Waking up Saturday morning my ankle is in so much pain! The pain is comparable to a sprained ankle! I’m bummed out because now I’m literally going to be looking to buy a different pair of work shoes or boots for my job! Until then I’ll try to make due with two pairs of socks on or find some type of aftermarket insole to insert into the shoe and hope I make it... Dissappinted!I bought these boots to get me through the winter. I hate boots that go over the ankles so I was looking for a boot that felt like a sneaker but protected like a boot. This came close but didn't quite fit the bill. I did give it a high rating because it did do exactly what it says it is going to do. It just didn't fit my specific needs. The shoe is comfortable but only with thick boot socks. I tried it with regular white athletic socks and I felt it needed a bit more cushioning. It protected my foot well and when I tested it on snow and ice it gave excellent traction and kept my foot dry and warm. However, for my tastes it was a bit too heavy. I wanted something light for everyday use and the Detroit was really heavy and without the thick sock it would have felt uncomfortable. I returned them and bought the KEEN Men's Targhee II Waterproof Trail Boot. This "boot" fit my needs and was comfortable and light and protected my foot well from the elements.
